Sneaky Wee cache here - and heavily muggled so try to be careful or go early in the morning! Cache is small and only contains a log - tweezers to extract will be very helpful. Parking is free at Dykehead cross or the local Co-Op. The cache is less than a mile from Shotts train station.
Sculptor James Paterson from Rutherglen was commissioned by North Lanarkshire Council to produce this Shotts Giant as part of the regeneration in the area. The piece was created in collaboration with the "Shape Up Shotts" Community Group. He is locally known as "Dykehead Shuggie" as he resides in the Dykehead area of Shotts but I like to call him "Alcan Dan". Dan is steel plated, weighs 1.2 tonnes, took two months to fabricate and was inspired by the pig iron production Shotts was once famous for. He was built by Caley Construction at a cost of £30,000 and has a commemorative plaque to the industrial heritage of the area at its base.
