A Classic Race to the Cache!


T-Birds & Stangs

Art had just finished polishing his sweet 1955 T-Bird when he received notification that a new geocache had published out by the lake. Wasting no time, he jumped into the car and was off. He had exactly 35 miles to go and kept the car at its top speed of 103 miles per hour, determined to be first-to-find. Unfortunately, he forgot he only had one gallon of gas in the tank. The big V-8 got 13 miles per gallon.

On the other side of town, Sally got notified the same time Art did and also decided to be first-to-find. She jumped into her mint-condition 1964 Mustang Fastback and tore out. Sally had 25 miles to cover and sped along at 115 miles per hour, burning gas at 16 miles-per-gallon. Unfortunately, like Art, she started with only one gallon of fuel.

Of course, both drivers ran out of gas before reaching the cache, but each was saved in an amazing fashion!

At the moment Art's car hit empty, an enormous supernatural bird swept down from the sky -- clouds pulled together by its wingbeats, thunder cracking as it flew. The thunderbird snatched Art from his convertible and carried him the rest of the way to the cache, traveling at 180 miles per hour.

When Sally's tank ran dry, a wild horse appeared beside the road. She immediately leapt onto the mustang's back, and it carried her to the cache, galloping 50 miles per hour all the way.

If Art was first-to-find, A=5. If Sally was first, A=6.
If the second-to-find arrived within 5 minutes after the first finder, B=8. Otherwise B=0.
If both cachers arrived within 20 minutes of notification, C=9. Otherwise, C=8.
