An Evening with Geo-Bats
Nickajack Cave | June 25, 2017 | 7:15pm - 8:30pm CENTRAL TIME

Join the Chattanooga Area Geocachers as we visit the Nickajack Cave in Marion County, Tennessee.

Between April and October, this cave is home to thousands of endangered gray bats, who are giving birth to their young. Every evening at dusk, an estimated 100,000 bats emerge from the mouth of the cave in droves searching for food.

Event coords are for the parking area. Meet at the parking lot at 6:00pm CENTRAL TIME for the pre-event geocaching run of the immediate area caches. The event will begin at 7:15pm CENTRAL TIME at the viewing platform overlooking the cave entrance, and will end around 8:30pm. We will have an event log to sign, and stories to share.

As we will be near water, plentiful bugs will want to feast on you. Plan accordingly! But when the hungry bats emerge looking for food, the bugs will suddenly disappear, leaving geocachers with a comfortable front seat view of an incredible nature show.

Come one, come all. Enjoy a relaxing evening outdoors in the company of your fellow geocachers, and the endangered gray bat.
