This is a section of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, origanally part of the Brecon and Abergavenny canal, constructed between 1796 - 1812 by Engineer Thomas Dadford jnr. It then connected to the Monmouthshire Canal at Pontymoile to become The Mon & Brec Canal.

1820's the canal was in it's heyday, linked with almost 200 miles of horse-drawn tram roads carrying Coal, Limestone, Iron and produce.

Here at Llangattock there was a wharf the remains of the Limekilns can still be seen across the canal above bridge 115. A tram road ran up the mountain from here to the escarpment, remains of the track can still be seen  a ten minute walk up the road from bridge 114. at N51 50.685 W003 09.330.

Today the canal is used for leisure and adventure with several outdoor centres teaching children to canoe and generally have fun, you may spot a pleasure boat, some private others holiday hire boats, such a tranquil way to travel.

Congratulations to Llangorse Lakers on the First to Find. Well done to GochDdraig for second to find
