Geocache Description:

A walking tour of Haddington's architectural features.

Haddington has a long history and is the administrative and geographical centre of East Lothian, which was known as Haddingtonshire before 1921. The name Haddington like other East Lothian names is Anglo-Saxon, reflecting the spread of these people this far North. Haddington only became part of Scotland in the 10th century. Haddington became a Royal Burgh during the reign of David I (1124–1153), giving it trading rights and resulting in its growth into a market town. Although it is now a small town, during the middle ages it was the 4th biggest Burgh in Scotland after Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Roxburgh. Haddington's coat of arms, granted in 1296, consists of two shields, one depicting David I and the other a goat on its hind legs eating fruit from a tree.  You will spot a number of goats around the town.

There are many fine buildings to admire during this walking tour. If you have done 'Persevere' (GC6DZ89) in Leith, you will be familiar with the format of this multicache. The clued photos are in random order. Follow the walking map and keep your eyes open to find the objects in the photos to derive the coordinates for the cache. Make sure you print both sections of the walking map. The coordinates above are a suggested starting point, where you will find one of the clues.

There is a CODE WORD inside the lid which you'll need for a bonus cache, but you will also need two other code words from our photo walking tours in North Berwick and Aberlady. Relevant caches are:
NBNB (Nota Bene in North Berwick) (GC6KH7A)
Aberlady's Heritage (GC6KH84)
East Lothian Bonus (GC6KW62)
