Geocache Description:

The Railway.
143 Birkenhead Rd, Birkenhead, Wirral CH47 6AA.

From 18:00 until 22:00 (or later!) on Saturday 14th May 2016.

Come join us for an evenings geo-chat at The Railway Inn, Meols. For those wanting to come by public transport, it is only ¼ mile from Meols railway station and the 38A bus passes the pub. Food as well as drink is available for those who have worked up an appetite (geocaching of course!).

In the 1930s a Clinker-built boat was discovered in rebuilding the Railway Inn – some though maybe of Viking origin, but that’s unlikely. Ground-penetrating radar equipment was used in September 2007 to confirm the existence of the boat. The vessel is believed to be lying beneath approximately 6 ft to 10 ft (2m to 3m) of clay in the car park!

Back in the 1980, OMDs (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Darks) first single to chart (peaking at No 67) was Red Frame/White Light and contained the lyrics “Six three two three double 'O' three”. This was about a public telephone box (number 632-3003) used in the late 1970’s by the band to make calls to organise their gigs and transport. It is claimed that fans would call that telephone number from all over the world. It is very close to the pub and is the location of O.M.D - Meols geocache (GC35MD0).

There will be a fun quiz and a raffle in aid of the North Wales 2016 UK Mega Event and GPS Maze Europe Exhibit coming to the UK for the first time. Any donations of prizes for the raffle will be greatly appreciated.

Please help by logging your attendance in good time. If you note in your log the number of attendees and whether or not you expect to be eating, I can keep the pub updated on numbers.
