The Intermediate Field System, developed by the United States Department of Commerce, increased safety in early commercial aviation. Rodeo Intermediate Field 57A was established in 1930 to enhance navigation for (at the time) Standard Airlines. The red directional arrow pointing to El Paso is still visible today.
