Welcome to the northeast's first and only howling Wolf geoart. Come out to the SGL and HOWL with the pack!

To complete this art and to find the final AMMO BOX bonus cache, you will need to hike about EIGHT to NINE miles and find FIFTY unique micro caches which are laid out in basically a fairly straight forward and easy to follow loop in PA State Game Lands south of Hazelton...........SGL #141. NONE of these caches are actually at the listed coordinates of course. You will be learning a few things about wolves as you solve the puzzles in order to get the locations of the physical containers! Most of the puzzles are very easy to moderately easy since we want you to have low frustration solving the puzzles so that you can enjoy the long hike in this very pretty area in NEPA! The caches are all placed within 100 feet of roadways or trails, and are all small sized preform tubes hanging between 2 and 6 feet off the ground........EXCEPT one which will require minor tree climbing ~~WINK~~.

IMPORTANT: You will be collecting numbers for the final cache as you go, but you MUST HAVE a chirp enabled device to get to the bonus cache GZ!
  • --Your device must have current firmware installed
  • --CHECK THE HINT! Make sure that you are across the road from the solved location!
  • --It may take as much as a FULL MINUTE to receive the chirp data
  • --Stay in one place without moving around too much when you are at the location!
  • --Make sure your device has chirp searching enabled....and if all else fails, try rebooting!

Only SIX caches have numbers included, but you will not know which ones so you must do ALL of the micro caches. You should also plan on doing a couple of other traditional caches which are NOT part of the art, but getting a smiley on them will make the howling wolf art look much better on your map! Since they are basically along your route anyway, we encourage you to stop for them!

Some of these caches (including the two "extra" traditional caches) have fairly high terrain ratings, so make sure you are up to the challenge.......this is NOT a P&G sort of geoart! You will need several hours to complete it all and so me reminding you to bring plenty of water and snacks is an obvious statement. You will also want to be sure to bring spare batteries and a flashlight in case darkness "catches" you! You will be quite far from the highway at certain points.

REMEMBER: In hunting seasons BE SURE TO WEAR BRIGHT ORANGE to be seen by hunters! In fact, in the fall deer and turkey seasons (approximately from October to December) it is MANDATORY to wear orange while in the SGL.......200 square inches worth.......or you WILL be fined!

Please use the following formula for the final location, and then be sure to have a look at the hint for help on locating your prize:

N40* 54.ABC
W075* 49.DEF

---UPDATE APRIL 2019---

Very sadly, the original decorated container was probably muggled by a hunter who followed the trail of reflective strips to GZ. Since the hide is far from any trail or path, this is what likely happened. So there has been only a sad lock-N-lock here for many months (but THANK YOU to JLB73 for putting at least that out).
It took a while longer than intended, but there is finally a new thematic container back in place! PLEASE be sure to re-hide it well and PLEASE be sure to check the updated hint for tips on successfully receiving a chirp signal!
This cache now REQUIRES a chirp enabled device to access since the reflective strips are no more. I have upped the difficulty to a FULL FIVE STARS to reflect this! Unfortunately, I will not replace the reflective strips because they are too obvious and so there is no alternate method of getting to the final other then messaging me the collected numbers from the art caches. Be aware that there may be a significant delay in response time, which in all likelihood will require you to make a separate trip to finish up.
In the future I may consider making a trail using less obvious fire-tacks, or waypoint projection as an alternate method for those without a chirp device. But for now the ONLY way to get there is via the coordinates given in the chirp signal.

---UPDATE MAY 2020---

The game commission has decided to tear the living crap out of this SGL! Right now, the chirp is gone and will need to be totally re-worked. If you take the time to do the art caches and want to do the final, chances are that you have read this far down into the text for this important clue: RIGHT NOW THE COORDS FOR THE FINAL ARE LISTED IN THE HINT! I hope that you will still collect the numbers and not cheat.........but for now the final will not be as it should be for some time. Have fun!
