Congratulations on a full 18 cache series joint FTF to the inimitable pairing of Bessieboots and WFG !
The quarry nowadays is The Adrenaline Gateway, rightly prized by mountain bikers for its tricky trails and pathways over the moors. Sadly it is falling into decline due to Council withdrawal of funding, not helped by the recent drastic storm erosion which is very evident just at the GZ. Hopefully a private funding option will be found. As young boys ( and with the odd tomboy ;) ) we used to climb the hill to the edge of the quarry when the red flags flew and the siren wailed ; laying flat to the ground with our hands over our ears we would peer across the quarry floor to watch mountains of stone crumble in giant clouds of ashy dust followed by the busy whine and chug of heavy equipment moving in to sort and process the stone.
This series is a self indulgence as it takes a trail around my old stamping grounds as a child. As I was born and bred in Stacksteads walking this route brought back lots of happy memories for me. I hope you have a pleasant time hunting and admiring the views as you go. None of these caches are particularly difficult, so they would be ideal for a family hunt. The only essential equipment needed will be a pen :) The route is approximately 5 miles long and should take 2 – 3 hours. There are no particularly steep climbs, but the paths are boggy in places so wellingtons or boots are advisable.
