LT: Iš bronzos nulietas S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno paminklas buvo sumontuotas 1993 m. Paminklo atidengimo iškilmės įvyko tų pačių metų liepos 17 d. Paminklo autoriai - skulptorius Juozas Šlivinskas bei architektas Algimantas Nasvytis. Paminklą pašventino Kauno arkivyskupas metropolitas Sigitas Tamkevičius.
Pirmąjį paminklo projektą dar 1937 m. sukūrė skulptorius Bronius Pundzius. Skulptoriaus J. Šlivinsko sukurtas paminklo projektas laimėjo pirmą vietą konkurse, surengtame Atlanto nugalėtojų 60-mečiui paminėti.
1933 m. liepos 15 dieną legendiniai lakūnai S. Darius ir S. Girėnas iš Beneto oro uosto Niujorke per Atlanto vandenyną išskrido į Lietuvą. Lakūnai su lėktuvu „Lituanica“ nenusileidę ore išbuvo 37 valandas 11 minučių.
Iki katastrofos vietos lakūnai nuskrido 6411 kilometrų. Tai buvo antrasis tuo metu skrydžio be nusileidimo rezultatas pasaulyje. Lakūnai turėjo nusileisti Kaune, dabartiniame S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno aerodrome, kur jų laukė tūkstančiai kauniečių.
EN: S. Darius and S. Girėno monument was installed in 1993. Monument unveiling ceremony took place in the same year on 17 July. The authors of the monument - sculptor Šlivinskas Juozas and architect Algimantas Nasvytis. The monument was secrated by Kaunas Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius.
The first project of the monument was reated by sculptor Bronius Pundzius in 1937. Sculptor J. ŠLIVINSKAS who created the monument project won first prize in the competition organized to mention the 60th anniversary of Atlantic winners.
On July 15, 1993 the legendary pilots S. Darius and S. Girėnas flew from the airport in New York to Lithuania. Pilots of aircraft Lituanica stayed in the air for 37 hours 11 minutes.
Before the crash local pilots flew 6411 kilometers. This was the second at the time of non-stop flights in the world. The pilots had to land in Kaunas, the current S. Darius and S. Girėno airfield, and they were waited for thousands of people.
