Geocache Description:

Preston's Plummet is located in Saltwells nature reserve. The walk to the cache is very easy along good paths through a wooded area of the reserve and passing Doulton's Claypit a site of special scientific interest. This cache location was once the tramway taking the clay up to the canal

Saltwells Nature Reserve is one of the largest urban nature reserves in the UK. It is home to ancient bluebell woods, dragonfly filled wetlands and orchid covered grasslands making it well worth exploring.

The reserve is a green island in the urban area with a long history, attractive mixed woodland and a site of special geological importance. It is a lovely place to take a walk and relax. Many thanks to the Wardens of the reserve for giving permission to place the geocache. The reserve is popular with locals and visitors alike so be muggle aware. For more information about this great nature reserve visit their website and facebook page. The geocache is placed with an attractive view across the woodland with the plummet below but don't worry the sturdy fence will prevent a fall. The path is very good and is pushchair friendly. From the car park it is about a 10 minute walk gradually uphill. Mobility scooter accessible. Wheelchair accessible with strong arms or a good push up the hill. The cache container is a small tube containing the log book. No room for swaps. Bring your own pen.
