The Town of Saxon was one of the first organized in Iron County in 1893. It was a booming logging and farming community and is still known today for it's dairy farms. The community was originally named "Dogwood", but that was considered undignified. The train depot operator was known for yelling "sacks on" when he tossed the mail sacks on the train, and so the town became known as Saxon.
