Geocache Description:

Placed with kind permission of the Forestry Commission

Hamish and Hazel, two haggis children went to a great haggis gathering – a picnic in Aberdeen.  They wandered off and as children often do but were left behind by their huge family in the confusion of packing up.  Follow their adventures around Aberdeenshire as they track down their family and meet some new friends along the way.  The rhymes contain a mixture of Scots and the local dialect, Doric.  Translations are available at the bottom!

So oor hagglets hid met wi their Great Uncle Fergal
An in nae time ava he became their best pal
He’d been feil and a gype since he wis a pup
An’ ab’dy kent he hid niver grown up

He wis ill-tricket as them wi a glint in his ee
“How aboot ye baith come on a journey wi me!”
We’ll awa and we’ll visit some mair Haggis placies
An baith Hazel an Hamish hid grins on their facies.

So a message wis sent by an eager young bat
Tae the Hagglets parents – an that, then wis that!
Away frae the ancient auld circle they ran
While the auld haggis follaed on wi a tune and a sang

Bit soon Hazel screiched an ducked doon her heid
“Fa’s at fleein at us! We’ll aa be deid!”
“A hoolet! A hoolet!”  Wee Hamish cried oot
Fur a great big owl hid swooped doon wi a hoot!

Feart by a birdie flyin oot o the blue!
Now stop an see fit’s hidin frae you.

Translation:  The two haggis children Hazel and Hamish had met with their Great Uncle Fergal and immediately made great friends with him.  This is because he’d always been thought of by the other Haggi as a big kid and possibly a bit daft.  Mischievously, he asked them if they’d like to go travelling with him to some of the other Haggis haunts.  They smile at this.  They sent a message to their parents  telling them they were safe and off they ran skipping and dancing through the wood as Fergal followed them humming and singing.  However they hadn’t gone far before Hazel screamed and ducked down because something had swooped at them.  It was an owl!  It had scared them by coming out of nowhere at them.  Stop and look for the next cache.
