Fort Belle Fontaine Park is bordered on one side by the mighty Missouri River. Sometimes called "The Big Muddy", the Missouri River is the longest river of the U.S., flowing 2,540 miles from its source in the Rocky Mountains at Three Forks, Montana to join the Mississippi River 17 miles north of St. Louis, Missouri, forming the world's third longest (c.3,740 mi) river system. (The Mississippi River is only 2,340 which is 200 miles shorter for those of you who were wondering.)
A spectacular view of the Missouri River can be enjoyed from top of the Grand Staircase, while those who use the trail can appreciate the sights and sounds of the river along the basin.
This cache was hidden similar to one I had found recently while visiting a park in Illinois. I liked the helpful tool so much I decided to replicate it. I hope you like it too.
Park hours are 8 a.m. to one half hour past official sunset. The park shares property with a state facility, so there is a guard gate at the entrance of the property. Sign in as a park visitor.

Special permission to hide caches in St. Louis County parks is NOT needed as long as the Groundspeak rules are followed. "Blanket Permission" has been worked out in advance with the park service. DO NOT CALL THE PARK as they cannot handle the calls. The Groundspeak cache reviewer does need to know exactly how and where the caches are hidden and what type of containers are used. The geocaching liaisons will notify the park service of new caches. Remember NO AMMO BOXES or PVC PIPE caches. |
