Remember a popular product spokesman and an infomercial about knives that seemed to be on day and night a few years ago? Late in that thirty minutes was a short clip that included the man who designed the handle of those knives. When we first saw this part, we sat up and said. "What?" Yes, that "Einstein of knife design" lived "in the backwoods of Adams, Wisconsin, surrounded by thousands of knives."
Well, this infomercial took on new meaning for us, and with the primitive investigatory tools that were available at the time, we were able to deduce where this backwoods spot was, and when we later met this man in another setting, while the subject of knives didn't come up, we were still in possession of the cool knowledge of this local non-celebrity. On occasion we would be driving around and find ourselves in the backwoods, very close to being surround by thousands of knives! Sadly, this Einstein of knife design passed away in 2011, and his place was sold. We have not seen the informercial on TV in quite a while now.
But wait! There's more! Mr. Sandlanders likes to ride his bicycle around the back roads of Adams County from March to October, and one of his routes goes by the area that this man used to call home. Whenever Mr. S rides this route, he says that he is riding the "Knife Guy" route, and we have now placed a cache somewhere along this route, not far from where knife handles were elegantly designed.
