With the construction of Interstate 71 in the 1960's, the once vibrant King-Lincoln neighborhood became cutoff from downtown Columbus. That separation started the neighborhood's downfall into neglect, vandalism and crime. In 2014 with the new reconstruction of I-71, the Long Street and Spring Street bridges were upgraded and made more pedestrian friendly bridge thereby linking the King-Lincoln neighborhood and the downtown area once again.
