Geocache Description:

The Lutheran parish school in Põltsamaa was one of the hotbeds of national awakening. Karl August Hermann, Jaan Bergmann, Jaan Jung and Mihkel Jürmann all studied here. Martin Wilberg, Karl August Hermann, Johannes Kappel, Aleksander Mohrfeldt and Eduard Bornhöhe were among the teachers. Eduard Bornhöhe, being inspired by the old castle and the beautiful daughter of the headmaster, wrote his historic novel "Tasuja" here.
Several members of Estonian Students` Fraternity had studied in parish school of Põltsamaa and so the colours of the flag of the Fraternity were discussed here. School headmaster Gustav Heinrich Beermann is said to have suggested blue as the colour of loyalty, black as the colour of earnestness and white as the colour of purity.
Beermann`s daughter Emilie sewed the flag in the needlework class, the flagpole was made in the carpenter's shop and at the consecration in the vicarage of Otepää, the flag was carried by the head of the Fraternity, Gustav Beermann`s oldest son Christoph, a student of theology.
