Geocache Description:

.

This cache is located within the 3D Starfish Control Centre.Which was part of a station Originally known as RAF Holwell Hyde. The airfield was used during 1940-41 as a decoy site for the De Havilland factory at Hatfield. It was so successful, that many of our own pilots landed there by mistake!

A large dummy factory was constructed on the site using mainly tarpaulins with dummy aircrafts and cars.Smoking chimneys in the day and deliberate 'black out leaks' at night completed the deception. The Decoy Factory was a brilliant attempt to save Mosquito Production from German Bombers. After the initial threat was over, the station changed its call sign to RAF Station Panshanger.

The Black-out leaks and Smoking chimneys were controlled from this very building. The aerodromes information board mentions it but here it is for real.It is infact a rare example of Starfish and only 1 of 4 in the UK.

Although the Control centre may appear at first to be locked there is a way in,its down to you to find it. A tight squeeze along a short passage is required and therefore this cache may not be accessible to all.
