Geocache Description:

Not all dragons are of immense proportions. Some, known as Dragonets, are scarcely larger than a man, but despite their smaller size they are no less deadly.
Typical of these is the Dragonet of Mount Pilatus, a creature so harmful that even its blood was instantly lethal to anything it touched. In the Middle Ages, the Swiss town of Wilser was for a long time plagued by this monster, whose fiery breath destroyed homes and farms and fed on livestock and people during its frequent journeys in search of prey.

Yet no one was sufficiently skilled in swordplay to offer any realistic hope of slaying it. The local people decided to request the return of a renowned villain named Winckelriedt who had been banished from the town. They knew he was a skilled swordsman and their only hope in defeating the vicious Dragonet. He was told that all charges against him would be dropped and his property restored if he could successfully dispatch the monster. After an arduous climb up the steep slopes of Pilatus, Winckelriedt stood at last inside a long natural corridor, formed by tall, pillar like rocks, which led to his foe's cave. But even as he began walking toward it, the Dragonet charged out and glared at him. It was a surprisingly graceful, winged beast, and its size was equally unexpected, for it was scarcely as tall as its human challenger.
Nevertheless, its skill at emitting scorching bolts of fire was more than sufficient to gain the instant respect from Winckelriedt. The swordsman jumped and dodged the fire bolts as fast as best he could, while keeping an eye on the Dragonet's movements. As the Dragonet sought to engulf him in fire once more, it's curving neck came too close to Winckelriedt's blade, and one chance was all that he needed to slice through its flesh with a sweep of his sword. The creature's head fell to the ground and it's flashing eyes closed for the last time. Greatly rejoicing, Winckelriedt raise his sword above his head in celebration of his victory. But in doing so sealed his fate. A trickle of the Dragonet's blood ran down the hilt of his blade on to his hand and wrist. He opened his mouth to scream, but before he could utter a sound he was dead, killed by the avenging blood of the beast that he had slain only moments earlier.

This old road, known locally as Yr Henffordd was bisected by the improvements to the A487 trunk road around the year 2000. It originally went from Llangoedmor straight into Cardigan. The cache is at the start of a footpath which runs alongside the main road and can only be done as a cache & dash when approached from Llangoedmor. There is no parking available on the A487. Please replace cache carefully! DON'T FORGET TO COLLECT THE BONUS INFORMATION.
