This geocache is part of the Sundance Geocache Roundup! Stop by the Sundance Museum to pick up a passport and let the fun begin! This cache is close to Main Street Sundance, somewhere along the walking path that runs through town and also connects to other geocaches. Depending on the season and amount of overhead coverage, your GPS may not lead you directly to the cache but will get you very near. The cache is quite small and only contains a log. Bring your own writing stick. Albert Hoge wiped his sweaty brow with his forearm, and looked up at the approaching stagecoach. The wood he was splitting would warm the trading post and hotel that stood next to his livery stable. The Deadwood stage carried passengers as well as the mail and came to his establishment daily here at Buckley Springs, near where you are standing. Buckley Springs is no longer visible, but undoubtedly provides subsurface water to the nearby Spring Creek. The stages that rattled through in those early days went as far west as Buffalo after leaving Sundance and usually started their trek in Deadwood, with a stop in Spearfish. This could all have been a regular occurrence near this spot in about 1880. Albert was indisputably the father of Sundance. He was a key player in the naming of Sundance, after the mountain and rituals that took place there.
