Geocache Description:

Placed with the permission of the Forestry Commission.  Please respect the land as you go on your adventure!

Hamish and Hazel, two haggis children went to a great haggis gathering – a picnic in Aberdeen.  They wandered off and as children often do but were left behind by their huge family in the confusion of packing up.  Follow their adventures around Aberdeenshire as they track down their family and meet some new friends along the way.  The rhymes contain a mixture of Scots and the local dialect, Doric.  Translations are available at the bottom!

“Ach calm yer sels Hagglets” their great uncle laughed
“This is jist my auld pal!  Dinna be daft!
“Yer nae her supper, for yer here wi mi
“No come on then Hoolet, fit’s adae?”

“Ach” cooed the Hoolet, “it’s Freda yer sister
“Ye’s need tae visit and gang tae assist ‘er!
“She’s nae affa weel, the ill-natered auld dear
“Bit she noo bides a lang wiy frae here!”

“I’m guid wi the herbs!” wee Hazel cried next
“Bit hoo will we get there?” Uncle Ferghal looked vexed
“Noo” said the hoolet, “Dinna get in a tizzy”
“Fir jist doon the brae, there’s a fairy cried Fizzy!”

Aff they went tae the den and she greeted them cheerily
Far Ferghal explained and rubbed his eyes blearily.
“Its ower far tae walk – we cuild jump on a bus?”
“Ach nonsense!” cried Fizzy “it’s really nae fuss!”

She waved her wee wand afore they cuild agree
They were gone!  But to where?  Jist wait an’ see!

Noo quick – look aboot.  It’s nae ower far
Afore Fizzy may whisk away you an’ aa!

Translation:  Having been frightened by the screech of an owl swooping down on them, Uncle Fergal laughted and told them not to be silly.  The owl is his old friend who wouldn’t eat them for supper because they were with him.  He asked the owl what was wrong and she explained that his sister Freda wasn’t very well and was grumpy and needed someone to go visit and look after her.   Hazel replied that she was good at using curative herbs but Uncle Fergal was worried about getting to her because she lives so far away.  The owl suggested they go visit a nearby fairy called Fizzy.  She was happy to see them and listened while Fergal explained that it was far to go.  Before they could argue, she waved their want and they were magically transported on to the next place.  You can find out in the next exciting adventures of The Hagglets Adventure!  But before you do anything else, have a look for the next cache which is nearby before the fairy casts her spell and you vanish too!
