Glendiver Bellbird- The Oaks History #5
Although this is part of The Oaks History group of caches , it is more a serenity stop on the tour.
As the name suggests the whistling of bellbirds in the trees is the major noise that can be heard when alighting a vehicle. A peaceful area where to the east a view of Razorback Range to the coast can seen.
“Glendiver” Homestead was originally a part of the Glenmore locality which was established in 1854. Edward Moore had purchased 2000 acres which was divided among his 3 sons. Joseph and Robert received 600 acres each and James 800 acres which he named “Glendiver”.
During the 1950’s and 60’s 2 farms were at the end of the road. Rabbitting was common then in both the valleys. In the mid 1990’s small farms began to populate not only the hillside but at the bottom of the valley. The road can be taken to the bottom, however an access gate then prevents further exploration.
The cache is a small bison tube, in an area where a beautiful view can obtained. Bring a camera as an excuse just in case of passing muggles.
