Geocache Description:

This geocache has been placed by Somerset Wildlife Trust for our Routes to the River Tone Project. There are 65 acres of green space close to here within a short walking distance of Taunton’s city centre.

This geocache is placed by Somerset Wildlife Trust as part of the Routes to the River Tone Project. Longrun meadow is a great site for wildlife. if you walk beside the river you might spot the small footprints and bright green poo of Water Voles or a Grey Wagtail eating small insects along the bank. There are some lovely mature willow and alder trees lining the banks which are a great habitat for birds and minibeasts and the waterway itself acts as a flight route for bats. Points of interest The meadow has some lovely features including a living willow cathedral, an open sided barn for shelter, a pond, the river itself and new plantations of hazel and willow. The willow field has been harrowed and planted with wild flowers to be enjoyed by wildlife and people. The site is part of Taunton’s flood defence system and in winter can flood over completely -salmon have even been found in the ditches after a flood.
