青島をとりまく波状岩は、「鬼の洗濯板」と呼ばれています。このキャッシュでは地層と風化について学ぶことが出来ます。
The Wave-Cut Bench around Aoshima-Island is called "Oni-No-Sentakuita".it means "the washboard for devil". And we can study Stratum and Weathering.

「鬼の洗濯板」は砂岩と泥岩が交互に堆積した地層が、侵食によってできた景観です。
新第三紀（1500～3000万年前）に海中で出来た水成岩（砂岩と泥岩が繰り返し積み重なった地層）が中新世後期（約700万年前位）に隆起しました。（下図参照）
そして、長い間の風化作用により一つの岩層だけが残ってまるで「ドミノ倒し」の板のように積み重なって見える現在のような景観になりました。露出している平坦な侵食海床は珍しく、昭和9年には天然記念物に指定されました。
このような地層は、「海底斜面に堆積している泥に、より浅海にたまった砂が嵐の度に密度流として斜面を滑り落ちてきて瞬時に覆い、それが繰り返し起こったため」に形成されたと考えられています。
Aqueous Rock (the stratum where a sandstone and mudstone piled up repeatedly) made of the whole sea rose to (approximately 7 million years ago digit) in the latter half of the Miocene in (before 15,000,000-30,000,000 years) for Neogene. (cf. chart below)
It was for a scene like the present that only one rock formation was left by weathering of the long time and totally "defeated domino", and to pile up like board, and to be seen. The exposed flat erosion sea floor was unusually appointed to a natural monument in 1934.
In such stratum, it is thought that was formed because "The sand which collected in shallow sea more covers the slope as density current at every storm instantly, and it repeats it in mud depositing on the bottom of the sea slope and had it".
