Situated next to the Whyte Harte the Gun House dates back to the 17th century and so called due to the unusual feature of four cannons half buried in front of the house. The house has a rich history and is reputed to have been the centre of brandy smuggling with tales of tunnels leading to the shore or to the Whyte Harte next door. Above the porch was the guardroom which had two windows giving a good view up the street and down to the Hamble River. More info here: http://hamble.net/WP/history/the-gun-house/
