Geocache Description:

The cache is a 35mm film pot placed at ground level.

The co-ordinates are the site of a WW2 un-exploded bomb (UXB).

Extract of The War in East Sussex:
On Saturday 5 October 1940 a string of bombs fell across Lewes at about 9.30, from Cliffe Hill to the Cattle Market, and between Southover churchyard and the railway line to Brighton.
Two of the bombs had delayed action.
One fell on Chapel Hill and the other, here, at Southover Grange.
The one in Chapel Hill was defused and removed.
This one presented more difficulty because, as attempts were made to remove it, the weight of the missile caused it to sink lower in the soft ground with the Winterbourne Stream running close to it. Finally, the experts agreed that, due to the depth, little damage could arise from it, and it was covered with concrete and has not given any further trouble.

So, there it has been for 77 years.

Just waiting!

Do you feel lucky?

WELL, DO YOU?

If you do, I suggest you take the following additional items when looking for this cache:
- soft-soled shoes;
- ear plugs; and
- plenty of plasters.

The War In East Sussex was compiled and published by the Sussex Express and County Herald (Price 3/-). It was re-printed a few years ago and is available in the local libraries so it might be possible to find a copy. In it you can see a picture of the sister bomb that landed on Chapel Hill.

Scarey!
