Monmouth College, Established in 1853 by Scotch-Irish Presbyterian pioneers as "Monmouth Academy," the school became Monmouth College after receiving a charter from the state legislature on September 3, 1856. The College has always prided itself on its basis of equal opportunity and in 1867 founded the first female fraternity, or sorority, Pi Beta Phi. That groundwork would go on to create an institution that strives for equality in education and life for all. Monmouth College has become a nationally ranked private liberal arts college.
The college’s Scottish heritage is celebrated by its bagpipe and drum band that have won national titles; during any official Monmouth ceremony or event, the bagpipes are always present and heard. Scholars day held in conjunction with founders day celebrates academic achievements with a wide variety of events, including student presentations and honor award convocation.
Monmouth College is a beautiful college with much to offer in terms of sights and sounds. Enjoy your time here while searching for this cache.
"A flame of White and Crimson weaves mem'ries shadow spell,
And a thousand hearts' devotion to the school we love so well.
Thy name means honor, loyalty, and beauty. Ever be
Thy strength, our strength, and pride for aye.
Old Monmouth, Hail to thee!" - Elizabeth Zumstein
