St. Mary's Covered Bridge is the only registered covered bridge in Huntingdon County. When I first started to take pictures of covered bridges, I bought a Pennsylvania atlas that showed all the counties of Pennsylvania and the covered bridges located in them. The cover had the very view you see from GZ.
St. Mary's bridge is registered as # 38-31-01. It was built in 1889 utilizing the Howe truss design. It crosses Shade creek in Cromwell Township. The bridge is 65 feet long and 17 ft. 6 in. wide. The county owns and maintains the bridge, which is open to daily traffic. The bridge is in excellent condition, and with the church in the background, provides one of the most beautiful settings you can find. It is well worth seeing and photographing...
Taking pictures of covered bridges introduced me to geocaching and it was a pleasant surprise to find out that about 90% of the covered bridges had a geocache associated with them. To date I have over 600 covered bridge finds and continue to search for geocaches at covered bridges. My motto: "Bridgin' and Cachin' - with a Passion!"
Congratulations carels for the first to locate.
