I have been working on getting more CITO events in Douglas County, and I am happy to present this one to you. I was recently bouldering with TheDreWilliams here, and we noticed a large amount of trash in the rocks and in the Cherry Creek. Immediately, I decided we should remedy this. It is a big project, so we'll need your help! I contacted the park, and everyone who comes to help will have a special volunteer pass for free entry.
We will be meeting at the posted coordinates at 9am. There is a restroom here, and some picnic tables as well if you want to hang out after the event and enjoy this clean park. We will be focusing on the Creek Bottom Trail (see map above). It is rated as a moderate trail. I am asking volunteers to help clean at their comfort level. If you are able, the creek bed area and within the boulders are pretty littered with bottles. If not, stay closer to the path and clean these areas. Do NOT go near loose cliff edges, we don't want any injuries, just less litter. If the litter is in a sketchy location, leave it. I will be wearing shorts and no socks so that I can walk in the water to get all the trash caught in the boulders and creek, please feel free to join me. We should also remove any invasive plants (Mullein) that we see. I can show you what this looks like, and the best way to handle it onsite. If we have a large enough group, we can hit up other trails as well. Please invite your friends, cachers or muggles, all are invited. Know any scouts/students who need service hours? Bring them.
I will give everyone two hours to clean the most that you can (9am - 11am), and then we will again meet at the posted coordinates. Please bring all the trash you gather with you. We will take a photo, and raffle off the awesome 2016 GCCO Gold Geocoin! I will try to get some more prizes, and will update as I do (PM me for any donations you'd like to offer). After that, you are free to picnic, geocache, keep cleaning, leave, hike, nap, or whatever else you can think of (within park rules and regulations). I will add a bookmark of all caches within the park so you can take advantage of the free* day.
