Located on the beautiful Lake Trail (Blue Blazed). This was actually the old CCC powder house trail. Large amounts of dynamite and blasting powder were stored away from the work area but close enough to be able retrieve it in a short amount of time. The parking cords for this cache are N36 52.359 W 081 30.665. This large peace of bottom land surrounding the parking area used to house a lot of the CCC workers ( you’ll see two of the old buildings on your left going in) and was also a former camping area with over fifty spots for trailers and tents before the decision was made to return it to a naturalist study area. It is now an educational area for local schools and clubs to study the different wildlife that has moved in to occupy the new habitat that has been created. Bring your fishing pole, camera, dog, bycicle, and children with you and spend the day. The cache container is a 50 cal. Ammo can and has enough room for large TB’s and swag. The former Powder House is gone but on its’ original site location is a nice shelter put in as an Eagle Scout project along with some benches to set and enjoy the beauty of the area. Watch for Muggles that might be walking, biking or boating. You will be in hidden from view at the cache site but people might be curious why you are over there. Please replace the container as you found it for the enjoyment of the other park geo cache hunters.
Thanks

Note: In all Virginia state parks you have to have permission to hide a geocache. Stop by the Headquarters building in the park and ask to talk to the official in charge of reviewing the Geocache Placement Application you will have to obtain from them. Let them be aware of your desire to hide and maintain a geocache in the park. Most parks may ask you to “not” make the cache for Premium members to allow the general plumbic the opportunity hunt while visiting the park. All my caches have been placed by permission at Hungry Mother State Park
