HISTORY: Waite was barely a town in this very rural township. Rich Township was completely skipped by the railroad, so it never had any places that amounted to much. The township offices are located here, the only entity to survive. Waite, sometimes spelled Wait, was named for the storekeeper John W. Wait, who was also the first postmaster. His farm was located a half mile west of here, opposite the Wait School, still standing. The post office lasted from 1899 to 1904. The "town" survived on maps for a couple more decades.
