Geocache Description:

I am combining two of my favorite hobbies...reading and geocaching with the placement of this cache. Enjoy hunting for it and please let me know if the coordinates need to be changed or the cache needs to be maintained. Stealth will be needed as muggles are everywhere. I have included a little history of the library. There is parking on the street.

Bring your own pencil. Gates to the library are usually up on Sundays.

In 1905, the Free Public Library of Valparaiso opened its doors to the public. In less than 10 years, it was necesary to move the library to a larger building. A $20,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Corporation allowed construction to begin on a new library building. Almost 11 years to the date of the Valparaiso Free Public Library, the new Carnegie building was dedicated and opened to the public. The library was unchanged for 48 years but then was renovated in 1963 and again in 1979. In 1994, after much reluctance, PCPLS voted to raze the building for a new facility. The conerstone of the Carnegie is used in the current building and pieces of wood trim, terra cotta wall decorations and bricks were saved for a historic display.
