Geocache Description:

The Pits cache takes you to William Hawrelak Park, a 68-hectare park in the river valley featuring a 5-hectare lake and open grassy areas.

The Pits cache leads you to Hawrelak Park! Did you know that Hawrelak use to be a huge gravel pit? The gravel pit has been reclaimed and developed as Hawrelak Municipal Park. The mineral extracted from this location was an important resource to Alberta's economy. Sand in gravel are used primarily in making asphalt for roads, and concrete for foundations These rock types are typically found in gravel bars or river terraces along the North Saskatchewan River.
