This cache is part of a combined effort by Richmond and Hampton Roads geocachers to place geocaches along the Virginia Capitol Trail.
The Safety Committee was out wandering the trail one day and the GCHR Geocachic Service representative wondered aloud "Anybody know where we are?" While the Lumberjack Local Union member thought he recognized a tree and the VCT Geology Department Chair thought she recognized a rock, none of us knew for certain knew where along the trail we were. The Director of the VCT Performing Arts Society used the incident as inspiration to compose a little ditty on the topic called "You are where you are" which received rave reviews by members of the VCT Performing Arts Society. Finally, the VCT Transportation Working Group Chair asked one of his friends to head west out of J-town along Hwy 5 to see if she could find us. Phew. Found. Turns out, we were at mile 15 along the Virginia Capitol Trail. All's well that ends well, but the Safety Committee reviewed the incident and came up with a couple recommendations:
1. Mile markers should be established along the Trail, denoting standard mileage from the beginning of the Trail in the east to its termination in the west.
2. The GCHR Geocachic Service should establish a couple benchmarks, just in case.
3. When just wandering around the trail, make sure you have someone from the Transportation Working Group who can PAF to come pick you up if you get lost.
Upon further consideration, the Safety Committee also recommended placing a cache at MM 15. So, we did. It is right at mile marker 15, on the backside of the MM post, in the ground. It got stolen by bike riding thieves. So we replaced it behind a nearby telephone pole.
