Geocaching NSW would like to invite all geocachers to attend our next event at beautiful Lake Parramatta.
The event will be an informal meet and greet, “BYO everything” picnic. Those who attend will have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends with a common interest, pick up the latest information on equipment, techniques and software, share stories about the latest caching adventure and swap travel bugs and geocoins. You may even pick up a hint on those pesky DNFs or get a clue or two on how to solve a puzzle cache you’ve been stumped on. There are free barbecues available as well as a children's playground. You can also canoe/kayak on the lake. Dogs are permitted in the reserve but must always be on a lead and must remain on established tracks if going for a bushwalk. If bringing your own picnic is not for you, there is a cafe close by where a variety of food and drinks can be purchased. Don't forget there are caches located around the lake too!
We are hoping to set up in the vicinity of the published coordinates. When you arrive, look around the various picnic spots for our large white “Geocaching NSW” banner and our portable gazebo.
Festivities will commence at 9:00am (for the hike - see below) and conclude at 2:00pm. At least one member of the Committee will be in attendance at the published coordinates for the duration of the event. A group photo will be taken at 1:00pm so hope you can be there for that.
** For those that are feeling energetic, please join the Committee for a most enjoyable hike around the Lake Circuit track. This circuit is a moderate walk with uneven surfaces and is of a higher terrain rating than listed above. Displays of wildflowers abound from Autumn to Spring and a small rainforest remnant can be enjoyed at the rear of the lake. Encounters with native birds and animals are assured. The distance around is 4.2km and should take about 2.5 hours to complete. We will gather at the trailhead waypoint listed below from 9am and head off at 9:15am. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes and suitable clothing for the weather. It would also be advisable to bring a hat and sunscreen, as well as some water and snacks for yourself.
Here’s hoping you can join us for a fabulous day of geocaching friendship.
Cheers,
Geocaching NSW Committee
