This cache is part of the Wey and Arun Cache Series - a series placed along the route of the old Wey Arun canal. The canal was abandoned in 1873 and had lay derelict and unused for over a hundred years before an enthusiastic band of volunteers commenced restoration. This series has been placed to highlight the amazing work already completed by the The Wey & Arun Canal Trust along with the monumental scale of the task remaining.
I have tried to use a mix of cache types/hiding places to keep it interesting.
3) Baldwin's Knob Lock
Suggested parking is in the Wey Arun Canal Trust car park behind the pub besides the Canal in Loxwood at N 51 04.198 W 000 30.802
Baldwin's Knob Lock was restored by canal trust volunteers in 1991/92 with gates fitted in 1993. Back-pumping was installed in 1997 allowing the gates to be operated even with low water availability.
The cache is a Micro (film type) container and contains a log book and two short pencils.
The canal towpath is mainly a well maintained bridal path along this stretch and should be suitable for bicycles and all terrain buggies.
Please be careful while retrieving and replacing this cache.
