The building on this lot was built in 1961 as a bowling alley. It sported a lunch/snack bar, pin ball machines and 8 bowling lanes. In 1968 the bowling alley was sold and moved to Spearfish, SD. The original building remained and became the home of the U.S. Forest Service. When the Forest Service built their own building on the east end of Sundance, this building was once again vacant. It then became the Church of Christ, and remains that today. You are now at the west gate of Sundance. Sundance is located about 20 miles from the east South Dakota border, and 45 miles from the north boundary of the state. It rests at the base of the Bearlodge mountains, which extend in a broken chain a distance of 25 miles north to northeast. In the 60's the small square building across Highway 14 was a Tastee Freeze. Many young people earned their first pay check from that establishment. In today's world, one day a week in the summer, you will find a busy farmer's market at this location. Fresh eggs, produce, baked goods and flowers can be purchased and you run into the nicest people at farmer's markets!!
