Thrór (2542-2790) führte 2590 D. Z. einen Teil seines Volkes aus dem Grauen Gebirge zurück zum Einsamen Berg, wo er zu neuem Wohlstand gelangte und als Erster seit Thorin I.wieder als wahrer König unter dem Berg regierte.

2770 D. Z. wurden die Zwerge vom Drachen Smaug vertrieben, den die Reichtümer der Zwerge lockten.

Nachdem der Berg eingenommen und Thal in Schutt und Asche gelegt war, sammelte Smaug sämtliche Schätze und Wertgegenstände, die er unter dem Berg und in Thal finden konnte und hortete sie in der tiefsten Halle des Erebor.

Wenige überlebten seinen Angriff, nur einige junge Zwerge, die sich zufälligerweise in sicherem Abstand zum Berg aufhielten, darunter Thorin Eichenschild sowie dessen Vater Thráin und Großvater Thrór.

Dies ist der dritte Cache der Könige unter dem Berg. Auch hier findet ihr einen weiteren Hinweis. 

Thrór eventually made it to the Lonely Mountain, and declared himself King under the Mountain. Under Thrór's rule the Lonely Mountain once again became the capital of Durin's folk, the Dwarves of Erebor became the best smiths and masons in Wilderland, trade increased with their kinsman in the Iron Hills and elsewhere, and they also became very rich.

But with this new found prosperity came trouble. It wasn't long before the great dragon Smaug heard of their great wealth, and one day decided to take their treasure for himself. In the year T.A. 2770 Smaug descended on the mountain in a ball of fire. Smaug claimed the treasure (which included the Arkenstone) for himself and laid there upon a bed of gold, for the next two centuries. Only Thrór, his son Thráin II. and grandson Thorin Oakenshild and very few dwarfs  managed to escape by using the secret side-door.
