Geocache Description:

A cache crafted by GeoTot at the Kortright Maker Madness event. (She named it too!) Small lock container with stamp, ink, and logbook within a larger "nest".

Birdwatching is another popular reason for visitors coming to Kortright. Across all four seasons, almost 200 species of birds have been recorded and can possibly be viewed. In our own visits, we have seen and heard Canada Geese, Mallards, various Woodpeckers, Warblers, Robins, Blue Jays, Wrens, Chickadees, Cardinals, Sparrows, Swallows, countless other birds that we are still learning to identify, and we've also enjoyed the birds of prey at the Raptor Centre. GeoTot made this cache here, and we thought it fitting to place it here too.

To get to this letterbox, proceed to the posted coordinates along the trails; there is no need to leave them at any point. Along the way you can look and listen for birds (if you follow the "Related Web Page" link at the top of this page, it takes you to a guide of what birds can be seen, where and when, along these trails). Once you are at the place in the trail where the washed-out bridge is on the west side with a bench on the east, you can take a minute (sitting or standing) to enjoy the view of the Humber River and admire the power and force it can have, as this is a river known for historical floods and wash-outs such as this one. Turning with your back to the river, and looking just behind and to the right of the bench, see if you can spot our friendly Cardinal-coloured cache hiding on an elevated perch.

For retrieving this letterbox, please leave the external container in place and just remove the smaller, lock-style one. You can use the stamp for your letterbox book if you would like to and also sign/stamp the logbook. Please ensure the locks are securely closed, and keep the stamp and ink inside the bag provided.

This geocache was placed under direct supervision of park staff.  Please use the provided trails and visit this geocache only during park hours.
