The Battle of Hoover's Gap and the Tullahoma Campaign were pivotal battles in the Civil War. It helped the Union army to control and continue on to Chattanooga, thus controlling a vital Southern railway and the gateway into Georgia.

General Braxton Bragg, commander of the Confederate Army, was entrenched in an area near Hoover's Gap. They were firmly positioned awaiting orders for any future movements. In Murfreesboro, Gen William Rosecrans had stayed for way too long and was itching for battle. He decided to feign advances towards Shelbyville and attack Bragg near Hoover's Gap. Armed with newly produced repeater rifles, he advanced fast and decisively. Bragg, knowing the end was near, sent his sentry forward to hide plans to the evil Death Star. He sent him at a bearing of 222° for 1.09 miles. To this day the plans are still hidden waiting to be found.
