Au nord, au pied de la borne où vous vous situez, se trouvait une petite carrière remblayée d'où l'on extrayait l'argile.
La belle argile est rare sur le territoire car il y a peu de secteurs alluvionnaires et la roche calcaire affleure.

L'argile extraite ici avait plusieurs utilités :

• mortier ;
• fabrication de briques et carreaux ;
• isolations des combles sur plancher ;
• sol des aires à grange pour battage au fléau ;
• sol en terre battue ;
• torchis.

Symbolisé Fz sur la carte géologique de Trélon, voici ce qu’en dit la notice :

Fz.        Alluvions récentes. Elles sont presque uniquement argileuses et sont surtout importantes dans la vallée de l’Helpe majeure avec 2 à 3 m de limons argileux stratifiés. A Eppe-Sauvage, dans le coude de la rivière, près de la ferme Grigneaux, on trouve à la base, des cailloux roulés de schistes et de psammites puis 2 m de limon gris jaunâtre avec des veines verdâtres, sur la rive concave, ou du gravier sableux, grossier, psammitique, avec coquilles actuelles (Anodonta, Lymnaea, Planorbis), sur la rive convexe.
