Today, there seem to be no frogs in the ponds, so I had to leave one. Only a few birds were singing nearby, but there was still plenty of water. There are numerous ponds along the route constructed with earthen dams and this seems to be the largest of them all. There are here for the local wildlife. One deer looked on while I hid this.
Getting here is well established but not easy. The shortest hike is up from the north end of Franklin Trail, but the road in is long and rough and the gate closes when it might rain. The quickest way is on a motorcycle or ATV, which requires less rough road driving to the staging parking lot and never closes. From pavement, one may follow Camino Cielo/Ocean View/Island View Trail along the ridge or Franklin Trail from the south end, either of which are just about 9 miles of hiking one way.
