The mailbox has been a part of Newellton since 1956. After first seeing it as an advertisement in Houston, Texas, my great grandfather, Ben Burnside, Sr., purchased two. One he placed in Newellton, and the other he gave to a friend in Apalachicola, Florida. The one in Florida stood until a recent hurricane, but the one in Newellton still stands today.
