De cache is geplaatst met toestemming van de Gemeente Apeldoorn.

Mheenpark

Het Mheenpark, de groene long van Zevenhuizen, is het grootste stadspark van Apeldoorn. Het 22 hectare grote park kwam in 1975 gereed. De vijvers, met voedselrijk water en vrij veel vis, zijn gegraven als bergingsvijvers die het regenwater tijdelijk opvangen. Het water is geelbruin van kleur door het ijzer dat in de grond zit.

Speeltoestellen voor kinderen zijn er in allerlei soorten en maten, evenals een Obstacle Parcours, een skatebaan, een basketbalveld, een tennisbaan, een skeelerroute en een voetbalveldje met goals. Om je dorst te lessen is er aan de start/finish van het Obstacle Parcours een watertappunt. 

De grote centrale grasvelden worden gebruikt voor activiteiten zoals sportlessen voor leerlingen van de nabijgelegen school, concerten en het oplaten van heteluchtballonnen. Verder is er een bomenroute uitgezet door IVN, waarlangs 27 boomsoorten van namen voorzien zijn. Overal in het park staan bankjes om even uit te rusten tijdens een wandeling en voor de honden is er een afgezet veldje waar ze zich uit kunnen leven. Als je de caches in alle vier de windrichtingen plus de bonuscache wilt loggen, dan is dat een rondje van ongeveer drie kilometer. Dat zou in een uur te lopen moeten zijn, inclusief loggen. Als je er wat langer de tijd voor neemt kun je nog eens verkeerd lopen, pauzeren en nog meer genieten van de omgeving :-)

En als je toch bezig bent, neem dan ook meteen de multi-cache ‘Mheenpark’ mee, de eerste cache in het park.

Mheenpark bonuscache

De vier geocaches in de vier ‘windstreken’ van het park zijn vrije eenvoudige, ‘traditionele’ geocaches. Je kunt ze even snel ‘tussendoor’ doen als je toevallig in de buurt bent voor iets anders. Je hoeft geen tijd of zin te hebben of te maken om een puzzel op te lossen of een route langs een multicache te lopen. Maar om degenen te belonen die alle vier de geocaches hebben gevonden is er deze bonuscache!

LET OP: als je de cache hebt gevonden, dan zul je merken dat je nog een hulpmiddel nodig hebt. Dat is verstopt binnen een straal van 1 meter van de cache (zie eventueel de hint).

Loggen

Graag zo onopvallend mogelijk loggen! Dus let tijdens het zoeken op:

• Monniksparkieten: deze exotische vogels zullen je niet lastig vallen, maar trekken wel je aandacht als je eens omhoog kijkt naar de bomen en hun grote familienesten ziet. Vanwege de overlast die ze veroorzaken met hun collectieve gekwetter, zijn sommige nesten handmatig verplaatst vanuit bomen bij woonhuizen naar het park. De eerste exemplaren van deze vogels zijn waarschijnlijk ontsnapt aan een dierenhandelaar in de buurt.
• Vissers: er schijnt hier genoeg vis in de vijvers te zitten.

Parkeren

Parkeren kan bij één van de parkeerplaatsen die zijn aangegeven bij de andere vier geocaches (zie de extra waypoints).

Coördinaten bonuscache

Het opgegeven waypoint bij deze geocache is niet de plek van de bonuscache, maar ongeveer het midden van het Mheenpark. Voor het bepalen van de locatie van de bonuscache heb je de cijfers nodig die te vinden zijn aan de onderkant van de geocaches in de vier windstreken van het park: Noord, Oost, Zuid en West. Met deze vier cijfers en onderstaande formules kun je de coördinaten van de bonuscache berekenen. Succes!

This bonus cache belongs to a set of four traditional geocaches in the Mheenpark, named after the four cardinal directions: North, East, South and West. On the bottom of (the lid of) each of these caches a number can be found for a fifth cache: this bonus cache. The caches have been placed with permission of the City of Apeldoorn.

Mheenpark

Mheenpark, the ‘green lung’ of district Zevenhuizen, is the largest park in Apeldoorn. The park of 22 hectares was finished in 1975. The ponds, with nutrient-rich water and quite a lot of fish, were dug as storage ponds that temporarily collect rainwater. The water is colored yellow-brown by the iron in the ground.

Playground equipment for kids is present in all shapes and sizes, as well as an Obstacle Parcours, skater ramps, a tennis court, an inline skating track and a soccer field with goals. To quench your thirst, a public water tap is available at the start/finish of the Obstacle Parcours.

The big central lawns are used for activities like sports lessons for students of a nearby school, concerts and launching hot air balloons. Furthermore, a route past 27 tree species is mapped out in the park (by IVN). Along the route each species is indicated by a name tag. There are benches throughout the park to take a break during a walk and dogs can let themselves go in a separate fenced field. When you want to log the caches in all four cardinal directions plus the bonus cache, that would be a walk of about three kilometers. That should be possible within an hour, including logging. If you have a little more time, you can take a detour, take a break and enjoy the environment even more :-)

And while you’re at it, you can also log the first cache in the park as well: the multi-cache ‘Mheenpark‘.

Mheenpark bonus cache

The four geocaches at the four cardinal points of the park (North, East, South and West) are quite simple ‘traditional’ geocaches. You can quickly log them as you happen to be in the neighbourhood. You don’t require the time or interest to solve a puzzle or walk a route along a multi-cache. But to reward those who have found all four geocaches there is this bonus cache!

PLEASE NOTE: if you have found the cache, you will notice you need some kind of aid. This is hidden within a radius of 1 metre from the cache (if necessary see the hint).

Logging

Please log as discreetly as possible. So while searching, watch out for:

• Monk parakeets, also known as quaker parrots: these exotic birds won’t bother you, but they will catch your attention when you look up in the trees and see their large familiy nests. However, even though these birds are eye-catching green, you will probably hear them sooner than you see them. Because of the annoyance their collective twittering causes, some nests have been moved manually from trees near houses to the park, hoping they will settle there. The first of these birds probably escaped from an animal merchant nearby.
• Fishermen: there seems to be quite a lot of fish in the ponds.

Parking

Parking is possible at one of the parking places indicated in the description of the other four geocaches (see the additional waypoints).

Coordinates bonus cache

The specified waypoint in the description of this geocache is not the spot where you can find the bonus cache, but is roughly the centre of the Mheenpark. To determine the location of the bonus cache you'll need to find the numbers that are on the bottom of the geocaches at the four cardinal points of the park: North, East, South and West. With these four numbers and the formulas below, you can calculate the coordinates of the bonus cache. Good luck!
