Home of the Roxby Races
570km North of Adelaide is the town of Roxby Downs. Built in 1987 to service the nearby mine at Olympic Dam, the town currently has approximately 3,500 residents.
Each year on the first Saturday in August, the townspeople come out to bear witness to the "Roxby Races", the most remote official horse racing meeting in South Australia. The horses race around a red dirt track, with the most important race of the day being the "Outback Cup".
Another major feature of the day is Fashions on the Field, in recent years, this race meet has been added to the official SA Racing Fashions on the Field with the winner automatically going through to the final in Adelaide. You are looking for a nano cache - BYO writing implement!
