Indian Paint Brush Flower (Castilleja spp.). Indian paintbrush is wild flower found in Western United States and northern Mexico in sunny areas of mountain meadows, stream banks, open woods, semi-desert, high desert and roadsides. The attractive "flowers" that we admire are actually leaf-like parts, the bracts and sepals. Castilleja plants come in red, orange, yellow, white or cream and purple. They bloom from April to September.
Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail is a 3.06 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Wilkes-Barre, PA that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October. The Trail is located on Earth Conservancy land, and this cache is placed in accordance with their rules & regulations. Use of the land is permitted from sunrise to sunset. Hunting is permitted in this area, so please wear orange during hunting season! We decided to do the A,B,C's of flowers, each cache will represent a unique flower. Caches were placed right off of the trails. The cache containers are various camo covered pill bottles. There are 24 caches in all. Only the first cache has a FTF prize. The last cache is placed at the eastern trailhead, near the Greater Hanover Area Reccreation Park BYOP and as always CITO. Happy caching....
