In Memory of Alex Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

TJPost: It is quite a hike to the final and it's through some pretty nasty terrain. It seemed fine when we placed it, but the time of year can make a huge difference.

Geocache Description:

A multi in a nature area.  The first stage is a virtual and then stay on the path for the second stage.  You may park by the elementary school; if the lot near the nature area is full there is parking in the east lot.  Please stay on the path - the cache is 5 steps from the trail.  The trail to the first stage is in great shape, the trail to the second stage has a downed tree to climb over and the area can be a bit muddy if it's been raining.

During the 2013-14 school year we hosted an exchange student, David, who was from Sweden.  He became friends with Alex through their mutual participation on the school track team.  Tragically, Alex was killed in a car accident on his way home from a track team get together.  He was an Eagle Scout and he and his family were heavily involved in scouting, the community, the school, and their church.

Recently, we were walking in the nature area pulling a series that needed to be archived.  Imagine our surprise when we came to the old, dilapadated, tilted bridge and instead found a beautiful new bridge with a sign nearby.  How wonderful that Josh Theisen would honor his fellow Scout and friend in this manner.  We wanted to place a cache so that others could read the sign and experience the nature area.

In order to find the final, you will need to read the sign the figure out the following clues: N42 56.abc W085 21.def a=the third word in the next to last line b=the Boy Scout Troop number is 10_____ c=the month that Alex was born d=the number of letters in the second word on the last line e=the number of letters in the bridge builder's first name f=the number of letters in Alex's last name Field check: the numbers should add up to 30.
