The creek feeding the falls is the outflow from the Emigrant Creek dam which is the water supply for Ballina. This place for years was a locally known haven and very few people were aware of it. In recent years it has become more well known and is now very popular with the locals. From the new freeway which has been recently opened it is less than a 5 minute drive to the carpark and around 5 minutes to the lookout.
