Go Flames Go!!! Our intention was to guide you to the lookout spot on Spiller Road, but there were some issues regarding available real estate, so instead, you're here! A semi rundown outdoor rink (which is actually kind of awesome in it's own way.) Some of our favourite hockey has been played between friends, over drinks on an outdoor community rink. As you exit, take a moment to stop up the street and take in thespectacular view of the city, and another one of our favourite arenas, day or night. Built in 1983, the Saddledome replaced the Corral as home ice for the Calgary Flames, and was called “the finest international rink in the world” by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The first game in the building was between the Flames and Edmonton Oilers, with Edmonton leaving town with a 4-3 win in their pocket. Nowadays, in addition to Flames action, you can catch Hitmen and Roughnecks events, as well as the occasional concert. If you’re enjoying your time here, take a walk down the street to the off leash area with your GeoFamily.
GMMK Field Notes: Bring a stick & ball/puck & take a couple shots at the hockey nets while you strategize about your search attempt. Just know that the cache is accessible from the exterior of the rink only. (Maybe ROM & I should create an event at the rink this summer... geocaching meets ball hockey. Any takers?)
