Geocache Description:

At the end of May 2016, spooky_luke and CornishCandy will be visiting the beautiful island of Islay for the first time for a short break.

What?
This clean-up will take place on and around the Public Beaches of Port Ellen regardless of the weather!

Where?
We will meet at the listed coordinates, where free roadside parking is available and then move to the beach in the additional waypoint where again free parking, public toilets and waste disposal facilities are available.

When?
Tuesday 31st May 2016 – We will be setting off after a short Health and Safety Briefing at 09:30AM and this event is scheduled to last for one hour (or longer if the beaches are very dirty!)

How?
Bin bags, litter pickers and gloves will be supplied to all those who log a Will Attend

Health & Safety/Risk Assessment:
The assessment is laid out as follows:

Hazard – People at risk – Risk level – Action required to reduce risk.

• Cuts to fingers from handling broken glass or sharp litter – Volunteers – Low – Wear gloves.
• Back injuries from heavy lifting – Volunteers – Medium – Work as a team when faced with heavy objects – If it is too heavy, don’t move it – just mark it as a waypoint and report it to the event organiser.
• Tripping over bags of cleared rubbish - Volunteers & the public – Low – Ensure all volunteers use the designated collection point away from the paths and walkways.
• Drowning in the sea – Volunteers – Medium – The tide will be out whilst we are on-site. Attendees are not required to enter water at any time.
• Injury from aggressive wildfowl – Volunteers – Low – All volunteers to give any wildfowl in the area a wide berth.
• Catching a disease – Volunteers – Low – Gloves should be worn for the work and hands cleaned thoroughly before eating food or drinking. If you do not like the look of something, do not touch it!

If you wish to come to this event, please post a Will Attend log, so that we know how many Litter Pickers that we need to provide
